Hi! So, 18 years ago today I was a month out of college and on my way to a Dr's appt in Dallas when *WHAM*.

Ok, not quite that quick to be honest. I was in traffic, had slowed down on the right lane when a gardener's pick-up truck was full of horizontal trees stalled half in my lane, half on the shoulder. Behind me an 18 wheeler fully loaded didnt slow down and plowed right into my Jeep Cherokee from behind.

My split second decision was to get away from the impalement offered by the gardeners and find/make some clear space in another lane.

Only that didnt happen. What happened was the 18 wheeler behind me slammed my Jeep head-on into a milk tanker truck. The tanker was full, my jeep was not, so we ricocheted backwards and came to a stop because my jeep was now an accordion.

I remember coming to and being really confused as to why my safety belt had broken. People were driving by asking if I was alright but I wasnt able to be very verbal or figure out what to do. I do remember thinking, "Do I look alright to you??"

I dont think it was a long wait for the ambulance and cops to get there. I dont know why I didnt want to go to the hospital, I think I just felt so bad that I wanted to go home. So the cop tried to take me home, but I couldnt remember where I lived or how to get there.

"I dont remember" is something I say a lot now. Of those first few days after the accident, of the all the neuro visits, a lot of the last 2 years of college went good-bye as well.

I look on June 13th as a second birthday to my Oct 13th birth. The accident changed my life and I have learned to live within my new limits because the consequences of not paying attention to my body's needs are too great.

So happy 18th birthday to this second life.
Lessons I have learned from inhaling 7 seasons of Midsumer Murders in one month.
(this only applies to ‘villagers” as I watched every episode of Babylon Hotel in a month as well and can clearly, _clearly_, see how Londoners are different.)

1. English people have a lot of festivals
2. Morris dancers infest every festival
3. John Nettles is a god among men.
4. English villagers are rude, even to honest, pleasant coppers just trying to catch a killer.
5. English people drive on the wrong side of the street, I keep freaking out that the passenger is never looking where he is going.
6. There’s this thing called a “News Agency” – it’s where you go to buy newspapers
7. Everybody drinks pints, all the time, but nobody ever gets drunk. Except criminals. They’re always the bad tempered cranks everybody hates but rarely a killer.
8. Villagers are all up in each other’s business, all the damn time. I think everybody is issued binoculars, possibly at the News Agency.
9. I’m not sure they’ve heard of Glocks or other hand guns as they only ever shoot each other with these huge shot guns, that seem to costs tens of thousands of dollars. Don’t they know how cheap a 9mm is?
10. Everybody seems to swap partners.
11. Maybe that’s why there doesn’t seem to be any prostitutes.
12. I don’t think they know about recreational drugs either.
13. Supermarkets are very rare, most people walk up to Bambi or Thumper and shoot them in the face and eat them. And people pick their chicken off of weird mushrooms in the forest.
14. There are a lot of fucking murders in these villages. You’ll be risking your life just by moving there.
15. Everybody looks cold all the time.
16. Villagers live in houses that have cool names like “Hollyhock, Longtrees or Lothlorien”.
17. They use coins an awful lot, even if something costs a dollar!
18. Ikea is obviously outlawed in England, I’m not sure what they have against modern, modular furniture; probably because it doesn’t burn as well as the family antiques of a cheating spouse.
19. You can find anyone you’re looking for at the local pub. I’m not sure people stay home, ever, except when they’re getting killed when no-one is around to witness.
20. People sure do carry grudges for a long time - 100’s of years.
21. Everybody is white!!!
22. I think tea must taste better there.
23. These people have never heard of botox, or apartments, or soda. And maybe not the internet.
24. There are some really huge, honking estates. I bet the heating bills are killer.
25. I think New Zealand is their Canada.
26. Everything still sounds better in an English accent and a raised brow.
PS. I never want to go to Miami, I’m afraid I’d get shot right off the plane!
I'm getting good at making Cheese enchiladas with verde sauce!

It's been a long 3 months, Monday I go back to the Ad Agency I spent all summer at. I'm so thrilled to have a short commute again! Plus Ad Agency!

Friday night was spent in the ER at Stanford getting another blood transfusion. I feel a lot better now, but I'm not anywhere near normal iron levels yet.

We're sitting around the dinner table talking about the ghost sightings. "Did you ever find out who was playing the piano that one day in the afternoon?". "No, I thought it was me, but then I realized I was upstairs."
- this is from the Physics major

Right now we're debating if Andrew is actually dead or not. He thinks it would be awesome not to be jailed for anything he does dead. He would make a good lecherous ghost. But maybe we're all dead & don't know it. Andrew says he'd rather have friends dead/ghost-y with him. I think our new house band is called "Ghost Posse".

Larry Crowne had to be good because of Tom Hanks & Julia Roberts starring in it. Then I saw that Hanks co-wrote it with Nia Vardalos of My Big Fat Greek Wedding & I knew it would be full of special little moments, real, poignant and funny. (and their spouses in small parts) And I wasn't disappointed, especially with the racially diverse cast that echoes my reality. Go see it, worth the price of admission.

Hey, does anyone have a link to one of few charity auction fundraisers that happened this past year? Or a contact that can give me some tips on setting one up for a pal?

Can you help me figure out what book series I'm trying to remember?

I thought it was set in the Bay Area. Maybe Seattle?

Main chick is a PI of sorts.

There is an ongoing hot-tub party that a local succubus uses to feed on.

A Mage trapped in dreams. A supporting character who runs the street kids, he stays fat so they will prosper. A fight in a Chinese herb store. And a final fight in weird, floating castles.
